PLAY IT AGAIN SAM:

Almost every one I know my age has a VCR, but are totally is baffled when they go looking for a tape or DVD. My ten year old Grandson walks in and has a wheelbarrow full in less than ten minutes. I truly try to pick tapes that will entertain and maybe teach me something. I admit I am in a blue funk until I get to "THE CLASSICS." Now kid start loading my selections in to your wheelbarrow!

Here are some for you to try if you suffer from the 'Video Blue Funk' syndrome.

1. Harold and Maude. Probably the greatest movie of all time dealing with "REAL LOVE." Cat Stevens does the music. Every actor plays his or her role perfectly. Anti-war is woven in. Controlling Mother and Society launch their attack on Harold and Maude. The police chase is hilarious and Harold's ingenuity will have you and your children rolling on the floor. I rate it at "Five Bags of Popcorn", you're sure to spill four while laughing. Get salt free popcorn 'cause your tears will salt down the last bag at the end.

2. Oliver (the original) Best musical I've ever seen. Based on Oliver Twist. Another Five Bagger and a box of candied Blueberries.

3. Rocket Gibraltar. This is a beautiful story of a three-generation family. They come together to celebrate the Grandfather's 70th birthday. Burt Lancaster as the grandfather is superb. The three females are so good you'll love them all. All the grandchildren play their roles in outstanding manners. Keep your eye on the French Caterer. He may surprise you, but you have to be quick. Five Bagger no salt on the last bag. I showed this to a lady friend from Okinawa. Even with her limited English "she got it."

4. Breaker Morrant. Australian Film. Based on a true story that took place during the Boer War in South Africa (Canada also had a large contingent there and Canadians won FOUR Victoria Crosses). Excellent acting and scenery. This is how the Military really works to this day. Four Bagger.

5. Goodbye Pork Pie. New Zealand film. If you can find it, you'll never have to go to New Zealand. A young Rascal and a middle age Rascal end up in a stolen Mini Minor (Pork Pie). With the Cops in hot pursuit, you take a tour of both islands. You'll cheer for Pork Pie all the way and boo the Cops. It's a funner worth Three Bags.

6. Radio Days. A Woody Allan production. It is a story based on the days of Radio drama and comedy. The days when we really believed things like The Green Hornet, Boston Blacky and Superman were real! If you want to understand your Grand parent's youth grab three and a half Bags and a large Coke, press play.

7. The War Prayer. Mark Twain Story. Written after the Civil War. If you ever thought war was right then look at this. Two Bagger and a Sprite.

8. Puddin' Head Wilson. Mark Twain Story. Standing up for what is right when every one else says you're wrong. Giant Coke, Two Bags and a box of chocolate raisins.

9. The Mysterious Stranger. Mark Twain set in the Middle Ages, Hiedelberg Germany. You may say this is a Devil of a film because two boys meet the Devils nephew. It deals with our common want to change time. One big Chocolate bar and two Bags. The actual story is better than the film.

10. The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, African Queen, The Hustler, Lonesome Dove. Are always good for a re-run, even when my Grandson says "O Grampa we've seen that one at least six times!" ~~~"Quiet kid and watch the show, if I'm buying the Popcorn, I get to choose the film!"
