The full policy is stored with the membership chairman, and is available on request.    Safety POLICY:   Saftey policy - (PDF) TC_Safe_Boating_Guide - (PDF) Dragon_Boat_Canada-Safety_Guidelines - (PDF) Revised: Jan 2022 Funding POLICY: Please note: These funds, are determined by the board's annual budget.  Team Funds: A grant will be dispensed to each team, each year.  CRITERIA: Use of the monies, to be decided by the whole team, and for the benefit of all.  Honorariums may be extended to coaches and team leaders, if the team chooses.  Coaches' and Steerspersons' Education Fund: Costs for Dragon Boat Canada coaching  courses, required for training as a coach, will be reimbursed to approved participants. Similarly, the cost of the steering course for the Concord Pacific for steerspersons involved in serious racing. CRITERIA: Members interested in becoming coaches/steerspersons must apply to the board, by obtaining the application form, from the coach liaison. Reimbursement is on successful course completion Change to Coaches and Steers Honorarium:  The head coaches for each team, if they do no paddle will no longer have to pay the current membership fee at the beginning of each season. The team designated steersperson will have their membership fee waived.  CRITERIA: The prime coach is the main teaching coach in charge of a team, must have coached for at least one full year and continues to coach a sanctioned team for the full, current season. A team may have to prime coaches. Sponsorship and Money Raising Funds:  Board Fund Raising: The SCDBC BOARD may raise funds or obtain sponsors, if they need to raise funds for the use of the total membership.  Team Fund Raising: Teams may raise funds, or obtain sponsors individually and autonomously for the use of their teams. CRITERIA: Teams must obtain approval from the president of the SCDBC Board to raise funds  or acquire a sponsor, prior to the initiating of the campaign, in writing, or by email. Stating what the monies are for, what kind of fundraising is being planned, which companies/organizations  they plan to approach, and how the monies will be spent.  Policy #3  Revised March 2018 Membership POLICY: MEMBERSHIP FEES The annual membership is valid from January 1st till December 31st of the current year.  FULL MEMBERSHIP Returning and New Members: $150.00 per year registration fee paid by March 31st, after April 1st fee is $165.00.   Members joining after this date will be placed on a team, if space is available, otherwise they  will be designated as spares. LIMITED MEMBERSHIP Past and New Members:  After July 1st, will be charged a pro-rated fee of $75.00 and may join  a team if there is space available, or they will paddle as a SPARE only.   ALUMNI MEMBERSHIP:  Past members, who are not presently paddling, but wish to receive team and club information.    Fee $25.00 per year. AFFLIATED MEMBERSHIP Members of the Gibsons Paddle Club and other Coast Dragon Boat Clubs will be charged 50%  of the current year's membership fee ($75.00), and may join as full team members at the  beginning of the season. These members will have no voting rights, and cannot hold a position on the SCDBC board. GUEST POLICY Each guest paddler can attend up to two practices per dragon boat season, at no charge.   Every practice after that will be $5/person/practice.  It is the responsibility of the team coach or  manager to keep track of when a guest has used their 2 free paddles. Minimum age requirement  is 13 years; coach and steersperson have final responsibility and authority. Coach and  steersperson to decide how many guests per practice are allowed, and prior notification given to  coach, of paddlers bringing a guest(s) is required.  The team captain, manager or team rep is  responsible for collecting guest fees,  obtaining the guest forms and signed waivers PRIOR to  going on the water.  Potential paddlers will have 1 free paddle. Members may UPGRADE at any time during the year, and their fee will applied to the new  membership category.  Guest fees cannot be applied to a membership.  Memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable. Exceptions for medical reasons will be  considered upon application to the SCDBC board. Failure to comply with the membership policy could result in membership being revoked.
