Happy Birthday Mike!

"Hello, is this the RCMP?"

"Yes. What do you want?"

"I'm calling to report about my neighbor, Mike Fitzpatrick, he is hiding marijuana inside his firewood."

"Thank you very much for the call, sir."

The next day, the RCMP officers descended on Mike's house. They searched the shed where the firewood was kept. Using axes, they busted open every piece of wood but found no marijuana. They swore at Mike and left.

The phone rang at Mike's house.

"Hey, Mike! Did the RCMP come?"

"Yeah!"

"Did they chop your firewood?"

"Yep."

Taking Back our Roads
OTTAWA - Mothers Against Drunk Driving today is releasing a comprehensive review of federal impaired driving legislation, entitled Taking Back Our Roads, which emphatically states that the Federal Government must do much more to eliminate impaired driving in our country. MADD Canada (www.madd.ca) outlines a strategy to eliminate impaired driving in Canada and offers the Federal Government a checklist of policy initiatives that will help save lives and make Canadian roads safer.

Canada's Culture
Earlier I read a section on how to create jobs by protecting culture and I couldn't agree more. I am from New Brunswick but work as an English teacher trainer in South Korea and part of my job is teaching Koreans about Canadian culture. I use materials from Canada and topics and themes pertinent to culture. I would like to see more Canadian films and shows that are not attempts to model US sitcoms. I think of the Beachcombers from the 70s and 80s. That, in my opinion, reflected Canada. We have documentary and new shows like the Fifth Estate but we need to build on that and make more small town or small area shows. One thing that Canadians have is resourcefulness. We live off the resources around us so why how about showing this to others?

Hockey Night in Canada?
Just like we have a football and lacrosse league, we also need a national hockey league and basketball league. We appear to be losing our cultural status as a hockey country to American teams. We have more than enough Canadian teams to keep Hockey Night in Canada in 'Canada'. There also, somehow, has to be an eastcoast team.

Nunavut, Canada Pictures
What a wonderful web site! Thank you for the insight and views of this lovely country! I was helping a friend's daughter with homework and stumbled across your site. She needed to draw a picture describing the Canadian Shield. It was exciting to find the pictures submitted by Jerry Arreak from Pond Inlet, Nunavut, Canada. These beautiful scenes made the words in the text book come to life for us both. It was wonderful to see all the book described in color. We also printed a copy of one of the photos to share with her classmates.

If possible, please forward our thanks to Mr. Arreak!
Thanks to everyone for sharing!
